Synopsis A strike is imminent at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. The Union is seeking a wage rise of seven and a half cents an hour. Sid and Babe are in opposite camps yet a romance is born between them. At first Babe rejects him and Sid is forced to confide his feelings to a Dictaphone. During the picnic for the factory workers he makes better progress but their estrangement is reinforced when they return to the factory. A go-slow is staged by the Union, strongly supported by Babe. Sid, as factory superintendent, demands an 'honest day's work' and threatens to fire slackers. Babe is enraged by his attitude and kicks her foot into the machinery, causes a general breakdown and is immediately fired by Sid. Hines, the popular efficiency expert, is in love with Gladys the President's secretary. Periodically, he brings a more optimistic outlook to the life of the factory. Becoming convinced that Babe's championship of the Union is justified, Sid simulates an interest in Gladys by taking her out for the evening to the night club, Hernando's Hideaway. Through her help he is eventually able to gain access to the firm's books and discovers that the boss has been adding to his price the pay increase demanded by the workers. Sid then brings about his boss, Hasler's, consent to a pay rise and is able to bring peace to the factory and to his love life. Everyone goes out to celebrate - at Hernando's Hideaway. |

A musical in two acts based on William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night or What You Will |
|
The Northland Players’ Summer Youth Theater production will again be an original presentation from the minds and talents of Bruce Scigliano and our own George Krawczyk. Whatever … Ever After , a musical comedy in two acts based on William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a mixture of ‘the bard’ and Star Trek. The story goes something like this: When Viola is stranded in a starship accident she finds herself on a strange moon whose inhabitants seem to be consumed with the pitfalls of love. Fearing that her twin brother has been lost in the explosion of their craft, Viola assumes an alter identity and soon becomes embroiled in the intrigues of the rulers of this human outpost. Mistaken identities and hilarious frivoility ensue and all discover that Love, not Space, may be mankind’s final frontier. Sounds like fun, don’t you think? Auditions will be held at the Theater Center on May 23rd from 4pm – 6pm. Announcements will be sent to all area schools targeting students from 5th grade through 12th grade. Last year there were 45 students participating in the three week theater camp. An early read through is currently in the works for Wednesday, May 30th immediately after school. Summer Youth Camp starts June 4th Monday through Friday from 10am – 2pm at the Theater Center. The 2nd and 3rd weeks of rehearsal are held at the Opera House, on stage. Performances this year are Friday, June 22nd at 7pm and Satur-day, June 23rd at 3pm and 7pm. There will be no Sunday performance. The wonderful talent of our young people are apparent in their performances in the summer youth theater program, the Cheboygan High School Play, The Missoula Children’s Theater and the Rivertown Follies. Be sure to make time to see this show in June. You won’t be disappointed! |
