HEADS UP FOR THE FALL SHOW AT THE OPERA HOUSE!!!

By Sharon Gulau

It’s called, Moon Over Buffalo, written by Ken Ludwig, directed by Sharon Gulau and will be performed November 1, 2, 7 &  8.  If you want to be involved in a really, really fun show, watch for audition cards in August.

The show is set in 1953 when television is captivating the nation.  This leaves a very small audience for off-Broadway live theatre as it is played by the “mature” husband and wife touring team of George and Charlotte Hay.  As the curtain rises on the green room of the Erlanger Theatre in Buffalo, New York, box-office receipts are the least of their problems.  The company’s ingénue has announced she is having George’s baby and George has disappeared in a drunken stupor to ride out Charlotte’s wrath.  Suddenly a twist of fate leads to Frank Capra announcing he is coming to a matinee performance to audition the couple to replace Ronald Coleman and Greer Garson in his next film.  The resulting race to find George and make the most of this last chance for stardom is “good, farcical confusion”.  –The New York Times

The play has a cast of 4 men and 4 women ranging from “middle-age” to early 20’s along with 5 cameo parts.  The writer, Ken Ludwig, is a two-time Tony Award nominee and recipient of the Laurence Olivier Award.  Ludwig’s many successes include the Broadway hits, Crazy for You and Lend Me a Tenor  The original Broadway cast starred Carol Burnett and the show was critically acclaimed as, “Hilarious…building up its laughs methodically shtick by shtick with comic invention, running gags and a neat sense of absurdity”. - N.Y.
